A new computer runs smoothly at full speed. After some use it will slow down and may be susceptible to freezing or crashing. What is wrong? The registry has become bloated with useless data. You can clean it yourself or use a registry cleaning application to return your computer to full health.

All of us slow down as we get older and computers seem to be susceptible to this also --but for very different reasons. When you get your brand new shiny computer and start it up,for the first time,it goes like a champion race horse.

You go nearly instantly from one website to the next without a problem. Then one day--it may take a year or two--you start to notice that your computer is really slowing down. It takes a long time for the computer to start up. Going from one website to the next isn't instant anymore. As time progresses things get slower and slower.

What has gone wrong? Why is your once fast computer now seemingly dead slow? The answer is a very simple one in most cases -- your registry is swollen and overloaded with junk.

What is your computer registry? Very simply it is a databank which the operating system accesses to run your computer and fulfill the tasks you ask of it. All Windows computers since Windows 95 have a registry.

Over a considerable time the registry is corrupted by thousands of fragments of unecessary junk. There are fragments of programs which were never completely uninstalled, pieces of programs which were never fully installed, unneeded drivers unused shortcuts and a lot of other items. You may very well have some spyware in there also, which was installed without your knowledge and is carrying on anonymous mayhem behind the scenes.

The registry is full of fragments of junk which the operating system must work its way through to run the computer. The presence of all these junk items will slow your computer hugely and may lead to a freezing problem also. The only solution to this is to remove the junk and clean your registry.

How will you do this? Every Windows computer has a function called Regedit installed for just this purpose. As long as you know which items you should not remove and which items can be removed you will have no problem at all. Just delete the items you are removing and thats that. Its very simple. Or is it?

Do you know which items you must leave in your registry? If you remove these you may disable the computer completely. They are essential for its operation. Other items may be necessary to run some programs. Do you know how to tell the difference? If not you would be very unwise to attempt a registry cleanup yourself.

There is another way however. Several companies offer registry cleaner programs on the internet. We have tried all of them and found that they all do at least a fair job,but some are better than the rest in performance and ease of use. All of these programs will do a job of cleaning up your registry but they are good, better and best. You can surf the internet to see available registry cleaners or check our results to see what we found to be the best. You can have a free scan from a number of the applications on the internet,to tell you what are your problems, then you can think about what you want to do with it.
