Connections between India and the United Kingdom have always been strong. With many British born Asians having family based in India, a cost effective communication service is a necessity. Using conventional landline communication is expensive, and there are cheaper alternatives.
One of the market leaders in global communications is a service called VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). VoIP combines the simplicity of using a standard landline phone, with the scope and accessibility of the internet. VoIP is an affordable way of making long distance calls, anywhere in the world.
VoIP operates in a similar way to your standard house phone. The call is made through an existing or new number. The voice signals are converted into a digital format before being sent over the internet to the receiver. Once the data is transferred to the receiver, the digital signal is then converted back to its original voice form.
The service does rely on both parties having a fast internet connection. VoIP works through a transporter called datagram Protocol (UPD), and an application layer called Real-time Transmission protocol (RTP). A problem with the internet is that any data sent, does not always arrive at its destination in the order which it was sent. The RTP protocol ensures the data is in the right order, so that all digital signals sent as understood by the recipient.
VoIP can operate through your existing landline. The caller ID feature lets you know if the person calling is someone you know, even if the call is made from India. As VoIP works through the internet, if you cannot answer a call, a live voicemail service is available through your email. This allows you to access your voicemail anywhere in the world.
There is little or no cost in installing VoIP, as the service could potentially be installed without any new hardware. Extortionate rental cost charges for long distance calls made from a standard landline, will justify any money spent on VoIP. All you need is a standard internet connection with a modem or router combined with a VoIP phone, or a pc with the VoIP software installed.
Many VoIP service providers offer cheap calls to India for no extra cost. You can select the countries and package which most suits you. Why restrict international calls to India, when you have the flexibility to make calls all over the world.
Businesses have been quick to embrace the services offered by VoIP, both for its cost savings and the flexibility of its features and offers. For the home or small business, VoIP is a quick cost effective way of installing a new telephone line. VoIP makes it easy to create instant, virtual offices around the world. A company could set up local numbers in London and Delhi, but route calls from Bradford or Lisbon. Firms can also use VoIP to calls to overseas offices out of hours, or to staff working from home, without the caller ever needing to know.
